The CVSA International Roadcheck comes once a year, and this year’s may be over by the time you read this, but the emphasis on tire health remains critical for fleet managers all year.

Tire-related violations accounted for over 20% of out-of-service citations during Roadcheck 2024, and numbers are still to come for 2025. But, one thing is clear already: Proactive maintenance can’t be just a once-a-year effort; it must be a year-round commitment to safety and efficiency.

Tires Take the CVSA Roadcheck Spotlight

In 2024, tire-related violations accounted for over 20% of out-of-service citations during Roadcheck. From underinflated tires and tread depth issues to sidewall damage, the numbers don’t lie: tire health matters.

Goodyear emphasized the importance of tire readiness. According to Christian Gadzinski, senior director, Commercial Tire & Service Centers at Goodyear, proactive tire maintenance can be the difference between smooth operation and unplanned downtime.

“Fleet managers should prioritize regular tire inspection to minimize risks and maintain operational performance. Key factors to check include proper inflation, tread depth, and signs of damage,” he shared. “Routine maintenance and pre-trip tire checks can help fleets stay ahead of potential issues, ultimately saving time and money.”

Gadzinski also emphasized that Goodyear’s Commercial Tire & Service Centers (CTSC) provide proactive maintenance solutions to help fleets stay operational and reduce unexpected downtime.

“With around-the-clock maintenance support, pre-inspection tire checks, and mobile inspections in select markets, CTSC offers essential services to keep commercial vehicles running smoothly,” he added.

Fleet managers can benefit from tire repairs, replacements, and wheel balancing, as well as programs designed to optimize tire investments. CTSC locations also provide 24/7 roadside assistance, ensuring fleets get the support they need whenever they need it.

Work Truck Fleet Support When It Matters

Just because the inspection blitz is over doesn’t mean it’s time to relax. Consistent, proactive tire maintenance is key to improving performance, uptime, and overall cost-efficiency.

Johnny McIntosh, Senior Director of Commercial Services and Solutions at Goodyear, stressed the value of regular inspections. “Proactive tire maintenance is essential for fleets looking to improve performance, uptime, and overall cost-efficiency. Regular tire inspections and proper inflation can help prevent blowouts, reduce wear and tear, and optimize fuel efficiency,” he explained. “By staying ahead of potential tire issues, fleets can minimize unplanned downtime and improve operational reliability.”

McIntosh also highlighted how Goodyear’s fleet solutions can help fleet managers lower total cost of ownership, extend tire life, and lower fuel consumption.

“Goodyear offers a range of tires and fleet solutions designed to meet diverse needs and price points, helping fleets reduce downtime, lower costs, and maximize efficiency,” he shared. “The fleet solutions available provide tools and programs to monitor tire performance and activate services that optimize total cost of ownership.”

Roadcheck Ready: A Checklist for Year-Round Fleet Safety

Whether it’s Roadcheck season or not, here’s a quick checklist to keep your truck fleet, regardless of size or type, moving safely and efficiently:

  • Daily Walkarounds: Inspect tires for inflation, tread depth, and sidewall damage.

  • TPMS Monitoring: Ensure real-time visibility of tire pressure and temperature.

  • Pre-Trip Tire Checks: Address any signs of wear or damage before hitting the road.

  • Emergency Support: Have your Goodyear CTSC contact info ready for quick assistance.

Getting your fleet Roadcheck ready is about more than just avoiding violations; it’s about setting the standard for safety and reliability every single day. The right preparation can help you pass inspections, extend the life of your tires, and keep your drivers safe.

When it comes to truck tires, proactive care now means fewer headaches down the road. After all, keeping your fleet in top shape isn’t just a three-day responsibility; it’s an everyday commitment to safety.
