According to the most recent report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the national average cost of diesel fuel at the start of this week was slightly lower than the previous week, and four regions also reported small decreases.
The national average price per gallon of diesel fuel in the U.S. decreased by half a cent as of Aug. 26, 2025. However, the national average price of $3.71 per gallon is 5.7 cents higher than it was at the same time last year.
This week, regional average prices decreased in four of the five regions. All decreases were less than a cent, except for the Gulf Coast, where the price dropped 1.2 cents.
The averages for two regions have reversed the trend of being lower when compared to the same period last year. The West Coast has the most significant difference, at more than 16 cents higher than this time last year. The Gulf Coast region average is also higher than it was this time a year ago, by 14 cents.
The most expensive place to buy diesel is Hawaii, at $5.24 per gallon, and the least costly is Texas, at $3.20 per gallon.
