The first day of the full Work Truck Week experience is in the books – the show floor opened and flooded with people excited to be back. The high energy and busy floor is an incredibly welcome sight.

After going virtual in 2021, the event is back in full swing at the Indianapolis Convention Center this week (March 8-11, 2022).

Work Truck editors hit the floor running filming vehicle walkarounds, covering press conferences, and meeting with automakers, vehicle modifiers, product manufacturers, and more. Stay tuned for some video walkarounds with all the top trucks and vans announced at the show this year.

Officially kicking off on Tuesday, Work Truck announced the Medium-Duty Truck of the Year was the Ford F-650/F-750. Several of the Top 5 Medium-Duty Truck finalists could be seen on the show floor – International included a sticker in their front window recognizing the honor and Mack Trucks noted their recognition during their press conference.

Some of my favorite things about this event are the ones you can’t cover in news. From the animatronic Wooly Mammoth to Lion Electric’s drum line to an enormous inflatable snowplow, this an event you often must see to believe.

If you asked me what word I heard most often today, it would have to be “electric.” There is a clear push and desire for this alternative-fuel option and there are several options were available to see and even test drive this week. I saw a lot of innovation on this area this year. From light- to medium-duty, this is going to be an interesting area to watch for work truck fleets.

Shyft shared its Blue Arc van and mobile charging solution.

Some of the best innovations can often be the smallest. Buyers Products had what, at glance might have been a smaller new option on their snow plows, but to someone who lives in a place it snows seemed just perfect – lit orange snow level indicators. The illuminated LED guides are an easy way to help enhance visibility of plow ends. And I’ll never forget the comment, “it’s like a light saber for a snowplow.”

We'll have full show coverage after the event, including galleries, that will include many of these innovative products, new vehicles, press conferences, and more.
