ComEd, an electric utility provider in the Chicago area, was honored with awards in greenhouse gas reduction and for its efforts utilizing biodiesel, according to a release. The utility reduced nearly 370,000 gasoline-gallon equivalents of fuel via its fleet of 1,750 trucks using cleaner-burning biodiesel fuel.

Meanwhile, Waste Management and Nicor Gas were honored for efforts in utilizing compressed natural gas fueling; Schwan was honored for utilizing liquid propane fueled vehicles in the Chicago area; and UPS was recognized for efforts with electric and hybrid-electric vehicles.

The coalition is one of more than 90 coalitions across the country affiliated with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program, which brings together stakeholders to increase the use of alternative fuel and advanced-vehicle technologies, reduce idling, and improve fuel economy and air quality, according to the coalition.
