With nicer weather and clearer conditions, summer is the perfect time of year to be on the road.

What many people don’t realize, though, is that the summer season brings out more bicyclists and motorcyclists, increased traffic congestion due to vacation travel, greater risk of tire blowouts, and increased road construction.

We at RealTruck want to share some ways and convenient products to keep your work truck in tip-top shape and, most importantly, safe through all the elements.

Safety Tip No. 1 — Keep Your Truck Lit

Having an early morning start is typical for those who rely on their trucks primarily for work.

Summer gives us dark and often foggy early hours of the day. Having the appropriate lighting on your truck is crucial to keep yourself safe while on the road.

Even though summer tends to be a season with nice weather, it isn’t without rain and thunderstorms.

Consider LED light strips and marker lights to ensure you can keep your eyes on the road through any elements. Remember, you want to see and be seen by other motorists.

Safety Tip No. 2 — Cab Protection Is Prime

When you’re on a schedule, sometimes you must load your bed with materials and equipment in a hurry, so it’s crucial to protect your cab with a sturdy rack.

Cab protection is vital for work trucks to:

  • Ensure driver safety.

  • Secure valuable equipment and cargo.

  • Protect against adverse weather conditions.

  • Maintain the vehicle's longevity and resale value.

Though uncommon, a rack will also help protect your back window from flying construction or road debris during a storm or windy weather.

A headache rack delivers serious protection for your truck and helps haul all the summer adventure items you and your family love to enjoy while off the clock.

Safety Tip No. 3 — Keep Your Summer Toys Tied Down

In addition to keeping your cab untouched, tie-downs are a great addition to your truck bed to ensure you can hold materials and other items in place.

Having a tie-down is a must to ensure you keep yourself, your truck, and others on the road safe.

Retractable tie-downs offer convenience, versatility, safety, organization, and durability, making them a valuable addition to any work truck. They streamline cargo-securing processes and contribute to a more efficient and secure work environment.

Look for a product constructed of stainless steel and heavy-duty nylon rated to 1,000 lbs.

Safety Tip No. 4 — Subtle Storage Options Keep Work Organized

If you value efficiency and safety, you don’t want to hunt for tools and hardware lost on your floorboard while driving.

A storage box cancels clutter while it hides under your seat and includes removable dividers for better organization.

This storage space will stay unseen and out of the way while you go about your day.

The last thing a driver needs is unwanted items rolling toward the brake pad. Storage options in your truck will help keep everyone on the road safe.

Safety Tip No. 5 — Towing Mirrors Are a Must

Again, with travel picking up over the summer, it’s the busiest time to drive in terms of traffic.

Having a large work truck can often make it hard to see others on the road around your vehicle.

To enhance your truck and promote safer conditions on the road, adding towing mirrors will help you travel easily and keep an eye on whatever it is you’re towing.

Mirrors are helpful, regardless of whether you’re towing or not, for traffic visibility and ensuring equipment in your truck bed stays put. Look for a custom-fit option for your specific vehicle.

It’s easy and affordable to add and install some of these items while out in your work truck this summer, which will increase the safety and productivity of your vehicle.

Towing mirrors are incredibly helpful for several reasons when it comes to safe and efficient towing.
