National average diesel fuel prices were $3.02 per gallon as of May 24, 2021, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. While down a little less than one cent week-over-week, overall prices are rising and up $1.06 over the same time last year.

Average national diesel prices have been on the rise since Nov. 2, 2020. However, prices are on par with late 2019 and are lower than prices seen in mid 2018. Even during the pandemic and as states are starting to reopen, prices still haven't seen the spikes of mid 2014.

All regions saw an increase week-over-week and compared to one year prior. Current average diesel prices by region are:

  • East Coast: $3.16
  • Midwest: $3.13
  • Gulf Coast: $2.97
  • Rocky Mountains: $3.31
  • West Coast: $3.69
