The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) announced the passing of Executive Director Susan Hipp on January 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a respected leader, trusted colleague, and longtime advocate for road safety, leaving a lasting impact on the organization and the broader safety community.
Hipp dedicated more than 13 years to NETS, serving in multiple leadership roles throughout her tenure. She began as operations manager, later advanced to operations and marketing director, and was named executive director in 2021. During that time, she played a key role in guiding the organization through periods of growth, strengthening member engagement, expanding programs, and extending NETS’ global reach.
Who Was Susan Hipp?
Under her leadership, NETS continued advancing its mission to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities by bringing employers together around shared safety goals. Her work helped shape cross-industry collaboration, reinforcing the role employers play in improving roadway safety for drivers, fleets, and communities.
Earlier this month, the NETS Board of Directors established the Susan Hipp Road Safety Collaborative Leadership Award in recognition of her leadership and collaborative spirit. Hipp was honored as the inaugural recipient of the award, which recognizes leaders who unite organizations, sectors, and partners to achieve meaningful progress in road safety.
According to NETS, the award will serve as a lasting tribute to Hipp’s legacy, honoring individuals who share her commitment to partnership, shared purpose, and collective action to prevent crashes and save lives.
Hipp is remembered for her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to safer roads. She will be deeply missed by the NETS community and by the many colleagues and partners who had the opportunity to work alongside her.
