Smart Eye just raised the bar on driver monitoring tech. The company’s upgraded AIS (Automotive Interior Sensing) system is the first of its kind to detect signs of alcohol-related impairment using eye and facial movement analysis—giving fleet operators a new tool to improve safety, compliance, and risk management.
Built for aftermarket installs in commercial vehicles, the new AIS also packs in real-time road condition alerts, predictive crash analytics, and cloud-based control for over-the-air updates.
Four Big Features for Fleet Safety
The upgraded AIS platform now includes:
Alcohol Impairment Detection – The system scans for behavioral cues linked to intoxication and issues real-time alerts.
Crash Probability Scoring – By partnering with risk analytics firm Greater Than, AIS now assigns a predictive risk score based on how a vehicle is being driven.
Live Weather and Road Alerts – Drivers get heads-up warnings about icy roads, snow, and more based on current conditions.
Cloud Connectivity – Fleet operators can now update software remotely, adjust system settings, and check status fleetwide—cutting downtime and simplifying maintenance.
The system’s features are backed by strong privacy protections and GDPR-compliant data processing, even for fleets operating outside the EU. Customers can also disable any video recording or storage if desired.
Innovation Driving Change
“With Euro NCAP and global regulators placing more emphasis on impairment detection, the timing of this release is no coincidence,” said Martin Krantz, CEO and Founder of Smart Eye. “We’ve been investing in this technology for years to ensure it’s road-ready—and now it is.”
The launch is already earning praise from safety advocates.
“Drunk driving kills over 12,000 people every year in the U.S.,” said Stacey D. Stewart, CEO of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). “Technology like Smart Eye’s is exactly the kind of innovation we’ve been pushing for—it’s a big step toward ending this preventable threat.”
