As you head into May 2024, what recalls are out there that you need to know about, and which ones might impact your fleet? Work Truck has the answers in this comprehensive overview of recent recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalls are categorized as either pickup truck, van, and SUV recalls or medium- and heavy-duty truck recalls and the manufacturers are listed in alphabetical order.

Pickup Truck, Van & SUV

Chrysler

  • Recall Number: 21B

  • Vehicles: 2021-2022 Ram ProMaster

  • Potential Units Affected: 12,375

  • Component: Electrical system, exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The wiring harness may have a poor connection, which can cause the left taillight and left turn signal to become inoperative.

  • Solution: The remedy is under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 3, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 40B

  • Vehicles: 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

  • Potential Units Affected: 8

  • Component: Back-over prevention

  • Breakdown: An improperly connected coaxial cable may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying.

  • Solution: Dealers will secure the coaxial cable connection, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied.

  • Recall Number: 43B

  • Vehicles: 2021 Ram Promaster

  • Potential Units Affected: 2

  • Component: Electronic stability control (ESC)

  • Breakdown: An insecure ground connection may cause the electronic stability control (ESC) to be inoperative.

  • Solution: Dealers will tighten the ground nut assembly, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied.

  • Recall Number: 44B

  • Vehicles: 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L

  • Potential Units Affected: 2

  • Component: Back-over prevention

  • Breakdown: Improperly fastened screen module connections may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying.

  • Solution: Dealers will secure the display screen module connections, free of charge. All vehicles have been remedied.

  • Vehicles: 2022 Jeep Cherokee

  • Potential Units Affected: 12,221

  • Component: Exterior lighting, steering

  • Breakdown: The turn signal self-canceling feature may not function properly.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the steering column control module as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 17, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 22B

  • Vehicles: 2024 Pacifica and Voyage

  • Potential Units Affected: 26,776

  • Component: Traction control system

  • Breakdown: The traction control system (TCS) does not function when cruise control is activated.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the TCS software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 11, 2024.

Ford

  • Recall Number: 24S24

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 Maverick

  • Potential Units Affected: 242,669

  • Component: Exterior lighting, electrical system

  • Breakdown: The Body Control Module (BCM) may inadvertently deactivate one or both rear tail lights.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the BCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 20, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24C08

  • Vehicles: 2024 Maverick

  • Potential Units Affected: 9

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: The tire and loading information label may state the incorrect vehicle capacity, tire pressure, and spare tire size.

  • Solution: Ford will mail new labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 29, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S24

  • Vehicles: 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick

  • Potential Units Affected: 456,565

  • Component: Electrical system, powertrain

  • Breakdown: The body and power train control modules may fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge.

  • Solution: Dealers will recalibrate the body control module and power train control module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 13, 2024.

  • Vehicles: 2017-2019 Transit Connect

  • Potential Units Affected: 1,315

  • Component: Visibility

  • Breakdown: An improper bond may exist between the panoramic roof and the vehicle body, which can result in the panel detaching from the vehicle.

  • Solution: Dealers will remove, clean, and reinstall the panoramic roof panel, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 20, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 22V-859

  • Vehicles: 2022-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022 Escape vehicles equipped with 1.5L engines

  • Potential Units Affected: 42,652

  • Component: Fuel system, gasoline

  • Breakdown: A fuel injector may crack and leak fuel inside the engine compartment.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the engine control software to include fuel injector leak detection and install a drain tube, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in April 2024.

General Motors

  • Recall Number: N232431480

  • Vehicles: 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon

  • Potential Units Affected: 17

  • Component: Wheels

  • Breakdown: The front wheel hub bolts may have been over-tightened and damaged during installation.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the left and right front wheel hub bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024.

Medium- & Heavy-Duty Recalls

Autocar

  • Recall Number: DC-2403

  • Vehicles: 2022-2023 DC (Legend) dump trucks

  • Potential Units Affected: 41

  • Component: Structure

  • Breakdown: The upper hoist cylinder mounting pin may fail.

  • Solution: The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 6, 2024.

  • Recall Number: DC-2402

  • Vehicles: 2020-2024 DC (Legend) vehicles

  • Potential Units Affected: 398

  • Component: Exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The hazard warning lights may not function independent of the ignition switch.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 6, 2024.

  • Vehicles: 2020-2024 DC (Legend) vehicles

  • Potential Units Affected: 597

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: The wiring harness may route fusible links too closely to other components.

  • Solution: Dealers will repair or replace the harness to include proper circuit protection, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 6, 2024.

Big Tex Trailer

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2024 25GN, 25PH, 3XGN, and 3XPH trailers

  • Potential Units Affected: 112

  • Component: Powertrain

  • Breakdown: The oil seals may have been improperly installed, which can cause oil to leak onto the brake system.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the hub seals as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 24, 2024.

Bucher Municipal North America

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2014-2020 Johnston VT651, VT652, VS651, VS652, VT801, VS802, and Bucher V65t

  • Potential Units Affected: 356

  • Component: Structure

  • Breakdown: The pin securing the hydraulic rear door cylinder can corrode and break, causing the rear door to fall.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace hydraulic rear door cylinder pin, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification.

Daimler Truck

  • Recall Number: FL999

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, Cascadia, 2024 Western Star 57X, and 2023 Freightliner 122SD vehicles

  • Potential Units Affected: 29,092

  • Component: Wheels

  • Breakdown: The steer axle wheel flanges may crack and cause damage to the tires.

  • Solution: The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 2, 2024.

Paccar

  • Recall Number: 24PBF and 24KWF

  • Vehicles: 2025 Peterbilt 536, 548, 567, 579, and Kenworth T280, T380, T480, T680, T880, and W990 vehicles.

  • Potential Units Affected: 782

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The steering gear sector shaft may have been improperly heat-treated, which can cause the gear teeth to crack or fracture.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect the serial numbers, and replace the steering gears as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed April 29, 2024. Second letters will be mailed once the remedy is available.

Reading Truck Body

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 RM-78 11' and RM-78 14' vehicles

  • Potential Units Affected: 54

  • Component: Exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The taillight may be incorrectly positioned, exceeding the maximum allowed height.

  • Solution: Dealers will relocate the taillights, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 6, 2024.

Terex Advance Mixer

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2023 Commander vehicles equipped with Composilite SC20 Lift Axles

  • Potential Units Affected: 12

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The bearing journals may not be fully seated in the steering knuckle assemblies, preventing the proper installation of the wheel end hub assemblies.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the steering knuckle assemblies as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification.
