As you head into June 2024, what recalls are out there that you need to know about, and which ones might impact your fleet? Work Truck has the answers in this comprehensive overview of recent recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalls are categorized as either pickup truck, van, and SUV recalls or medium- and heavy-duty truck recalls and the manufacturers are listed in alphabetical order.

Pickup Truck, Van & SUV

Ford

  • Recall Number: 24S32

  • Vehicles: 2024 F-150

  • Potential Units Affected: 385

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The steering column lower shaft may have been secured to the steering gear assembly with an incorrect fastener, which can result in the separation of steering components and cause a loss of steering control.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the lower steering shaft fastener, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 22, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S33

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 Maverick, 2020-2022 Escape, and 2021-2022 Lincoln Corsair

  • Potential Units Affected: 8,727

  • Component: Powertrain

  • Breakdown: The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) software may cause the vehicle to shift into neutral unexpectedly, causing a loss of drive power.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the HPCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were May 23, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S35

  • Vehicles: 2020-2024 Lincoln Aviator

  • Potential Units Affected: 109,283

  • Component: Backover prevention

  • Breakdown: The accessory protocol image module (APIM) can be affected by electromagnetic interference with a cell phone in the vehicle, causing the rearview camera image to flicker or become distorted.

  • Solution: Owners are advised not to use their cell phones while reversing until the remedy is completed. Dealers will install shielding on the accessory protocol image module (APIM), free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 8, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S24

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 Maverick

  • Potential Units Affected: 242,669

  • Component: Exterior lighting, electrical system

  • Breakdown: The Body Control Module (BCM) may inadvertently deactivate one or both rear tail lights.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the BCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 10, 2024.

General Motors

  • Recall Number: N242447080

  • Vehicles: Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Hummer EV SUV, GMC Sierra EV, and 2024 Cadillac Lyriq

  • Potential Units Affected: 10

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: The electric motors in the rear drive units may have insufficiently insulated wires that can contact each other, resulting in a loss of drive power.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the rear drive unit, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 16, 2024.

  • Recall Number: N242444030

  • Vehicles: 2024 Chevrolet Colorado

  • Potential Units Affected: 56

  • Component: Tires

  • Breakdown: Incorrect tires may have been installed that do not match the tire label, and the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may provide inaccurate information for the installed tires.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the tires as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 8, 2024. 

Rivian

  • Recall Number: FSAM-1429

  • Vehicles: 2024 R1T and R1S

  • Potential Units Affected: 127

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: The dashboard air bag warning label may be missing.

  • Solution: Rivian mail owners the warning label information, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 21, 2024.

  • Recall Number: FSAM-1445

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 EDV, R1S, and R1T

  • Potential Units Affected: 2,334

  • Component: Exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The headlights may be improperly aimed.

  • Solution: Rivian will inspect and adjust the headlight alignment as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 6, 2024.

Medium- & Heavy-Duty Recalls

Altec Industries

  • Recall Number: CSN-3142

  • Vehicles: 2020-2024 Altec LR7 and LR8 aerial devices

  • Potential Units Affected: 1,128

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: The hydraulic cylinder feeder tube routed near the cylinder rest bracket may become damaged and leak oil, which can result in uncontrolled boom movement.

  • Solution: Altec will replace the cylinder rest pad and the feeder tube if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 22, 2024.

Bucher Municipal

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2014-2020 Johnston VT651, VT652, VS651, VS652, VT801, VS802, and Bucher V65t

  • Potential Units Affected: 383

  • Component: Structure

  • Breakdown: The pin securing the hydraulic rear door cylinder can corrode and break, causing the rear door to fall.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace hydraulic rear door cylinder pin, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification

Daimler Trucks North America

  • Recall Number: F1000

  • Vehicles: 2024-2025 Freightliner Business Class M2

  • Potential Units Affected: 220

  • Component: Parking brake

  • Breakdown: The rubber ball seal in the Intellipark Park Valve Modules (PVM) may fracture and cause a leak, which can result in park brake failure or unexpected park brake engagement while driving.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the Intellipark PVM, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 12, 2024.

Mack Trucks

  • Recall Number: SC0463

  • Vehicles: 2024-2025 MD

  • Potential Units Affected: 18

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the vehicle certification label is incorrect, which can allow the vehicle to be overloaded.

  • Solution: Dealers will remove and replace the label, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 28, 2024.

Reading Truck Body

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 RM-78 11' and RM-78 14'

  • Potential Units Affected: 54

  • Component: Exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: The taillight may be incorrectly positioned, exceeding the maximum allowed height.Solution: Dealers will relocate the taillights, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 6, 2024.
