In August 2024, what recalls are out there that you need to know about, and which ones might impact your fleet? Work Truck has the answers in this comprehensive overview of recent recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalls are categorized as either pickup truck, van, and SUV recalls or medium- and heavy-duty truck recalls and the manufacturers are listed in alphabetical order.

Pickup Truck, Van & SUV Recalls

Chevrolet

  • Recall Number: N242448540

  • Vehicles: 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

  • Potential Units Affected: 83

  • Component: Suspension

  • Breakdown: The right front lower control arm may contain a manufacturing defect that can cause it to fracture.

  • Solution: Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 13, 2024.

Daimler Vans

  • Recall Number: VS3FEDERB

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

  • Potential Units Affected: 1,232

  • Component: Suspension

  • Breakdown: The spring U-bolts for the rear axle may have reduced strength due to improper heat-treatment, which can cause the rear axle to shift out of position.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the spring U-bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Sept. 6, 2024.

Ford

  • Recall Number: 24S46

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Transit vehicles equipped with a Transit Trail package

  • Potential Units Affected: 1,902

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The electronic power assist steering (EPAS) ground eyelet joint may experience corrosion, which can result in a loss of power steering assist.

  • Solution: Dealers will install a new EPAS ground pigtail kit, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 5, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24C20

  • Vehicles: 2024 F-150

  • Potential Units Affected: 4,361

  • Component: Visibility

  • Breakdown: The windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, allowing it to detach during a crash.

  • Solution: Dealers will remove and reinstall the windshield, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 10, 2024.

General Motors

  • Recall Number: N242451330

  • Vehicles: 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon

  • Potential Units Affected: 8,622

  • Component: Fuel system, gasoline

  • Breakdown: The lock ring that secures the fuel pump to the fuel tank assembly may not have been fully locked during assembly, which can result in a fuel leak during a crash.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and fully lock the fuel tank lock ring as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 13, 2024.

Medium- & Heavy-Duty Recalls

Altec

  • Recall Number: CSN-3166

  • Vehicles: 2021-2024 JEMS S and JEMS SE

  • Potential Units Affected: 180

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: Inadequate clearance between the A/C hoses and the engine exhaust manifold may result in the hoses overheating.

  • Solution: Altec will install a remedy kit to secure the hose routing farther away from the exhaust manifold, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 23, 2024.

Capacity of Texas

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2023 TJ Series (5000, 6500, and 9000)

  • Potential Units Affected: 865

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The steering gear assemblies may have been assembled incorrectly with fewer recirculating balls than are required, which may result in a loss of steering control.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the defective gears, free of charge.

Daimler Trucks

  • Recall Number: F1006

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 Freightliner Custom Chassis S2C 106 and 2024-2025 Freightliner Custom Chassis S2RV 106

  • Potential Units Affected: 37

  • Component: Exterior lighting, forward collision avoidance

  • Breakdown: The brake lights may not illuminate when the brakes are automatically applied during an active brake assist (ABA) event.

  • Solution: The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 1, 2024.

  • Recall Number: F1005

  • Vehicles: 2025 Freightliner Cascadia, 114SD, Western Star 47X, and 49X transit buses equipped with Composolite EXS20 steerable lift axle suspension assemblies

  • Potential Units Affected: 61

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The tie rod assembly ball stud could have been improperly heat treated and can fail.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the tie rod assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 1, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S42

  • Vehicles: 2025 F-Super Duty F-650 and F-750

  • Potential Units Affected: 2,718

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The front axle tie rod assemblies may contain ball studs that have been incorrectly heat-treated, which can cause them to break, and possibly result in tie rod failure.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the front axle tie rod assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Aug. 13, 2024.

Mack Trucks

  • Recall Number: SC0468

  • Vehicles: 2025 LR, Granite, and Pinnacle vehicles equipped with Composilite EXS20 steerable lift axle suspension assemblies.

  • Potential Units Affected: 59

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The tie rod assembly ball stud could have been improperly heat treated and can fail.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the tie rod end assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 15, 2024.

  • Recall Number: SC0469

  • Vehicles: 2024-2025 Anthem, Granite, and Pinnacle vehicles equipped with RollTek driver's seat assemblies

  • Potential Units Affected: 242

  • Component: Seats, seat belts

  • Breakdown: The seat pedestal and seat belt attachment may have been improperly tightened.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace and tighten the seat pedestal and seat belt attachment bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 27, 2024.

Navistar

  • Recall Number: 24511

  • Vehicles: 2025 International HV, HX, LT, MV, and RH

  • Potential Units Affected: 532

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The tie rod assemblies may contain ball studs that have been incorrectly heat-treated, which can cause them to break, and possibly result in tie rod failure.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the tie rod end and re-align the front axle, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Sept. 9, 2024.

Sea Electric

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2023-2025 SEA Electric 5e, 2020-2022 Ford F59, 2020 Hino 195, and 2019 Isuzu NRR

  • Potential Units Affected: 174

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: The battery management system (BMS) software can cause the high-voltage battery to shut down, resulting in a loss of drive power.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the BMS software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 24, 2024.

Terex South Dakota

  • Recall Number: SN729

  • Vehicles: 2020-2024 XT Pro vehicles equipped with replacement basket brackets

  • Potential Units Affected: 172

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: The replacement basket brackets may not be compatible with the original basket retaining pins and cause the basket to unintentionally tilt.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the retaining pins, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 6, 2024.

Volvo Trucks

  • Recall Number: RVXX2405

  • Vehicles: 2025 VN and VHD trucks equipped with Composilite EXS20 steerable lift axle suspension assemblies.

  • Potential Units Affected: 12

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The tie rod assembly ball stud could have been improperly heat treated and can fail.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the tie rod end assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 15, 2024.
