Optimus Technologies announced the launch of a first-to-market biofuel conversion system, the Optimus Vector System. Optimus’ solution reduces fuel costs up to 25 percent and reduces emissions up to 80 percent, according to the company. Medium- and heavy-duty fleets can realize significant savings, with the potential for a payback of less than one year, from Optimus’ purpose-built solution. Vector prices start at $9,000.
Currently, Optimus is seeking its first certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use with the Navistar DT466 engines between model-years 2004 and 2006. Certification and full production shipments are expected in the second quarter of 2014. Field trials, certifications, and shipments supporting other engines are planned for later this spring and summer.
