General Motors is recalling an estimated 18,547 2016 to 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and GMC Sierra 3500 trucks equipped with gasoline engines and dual fuel tanks for a possible defect involving a sensor.
Specifically, the fuel-level sensor in the front tank may get stuck in a low-level position, causing the rear tank to overfill the front tank. If this occurs, the excess pressure may cause the front tank to expand and contact the driveshaft, potentially leading to a hole in the tank, which will leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the likelihood of a fire.
