Connecticut-headquartered City Line Distributors has inked a deal with DriveCam, Inc., that will see the installation of the the driver risk management solution in the food distributor's entire fleet. In addition to improving safety and reducing claims costs, City Line has decreased CSA citation charges and improved compliance scores since implementing the DriveCam solution.
"As a safety-conscious company, we are very motivated to increase safety and reduce claims costs, both of which we are experiencing now with DriveCam,” said Steven DiZinno, director of operations for City Line Distributors. "We also took a cue from big names in the food distribution industry and looked at the driver risk management solution they were using. Since implementing DriveCam’s program, we’ve had a huge reduction in seatbelt violations, use of handheld devices, and speeding. Our drivers are definitely more responsible and safer on the road, which has improved our CSA compliance scores and reduced citation charges. The Northeast – which is where we are headquartered – is a very congested area, resulting in many traffic accidents. Interestingly enough, our drivers realized the advantages of the DriveCam solution right away, and were very open to improving their driving behaviors."
DriveCam addresses safety by combining data and video analytics with real-time driver feedback and coaching, resulting in reductions in cost and fuel consumption. DriveCam accomplishes this using its Driver Science Engine. Through a patented, iterative process of scoring, prioritizing and tracking the results of driving behaviors, this model identifies behavioral improvement opportunities for increased safety, according to the company. In-cab video captures driving behavior, which is objectively reviewed and scored, then passed on to the fleet for use in coaching drivers.
Fleets manage the DriveCam Program through DriveCam Online, a web-based online portal. Seamlessly integrated into DriveCam’s DC3 video event recorder and the DriveCam Online reporting solution, DriveCam’s Fuel Management Solution combines real-time, in-cab feedback with online reporting and coaching to improve fuel efficiency – by up to 12 percent – and lower emissions. Unlike other vehicle-centric fuel solutions, DriveCam’s solution focuses on the driver – specifically on the three driving behaviors that have the greatest impact on fuel efficiency: efficient or “smooth” driving, idling and speeding.
