CARB Approves Lightning Systems' Electric Ford Transit
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved the second generation model of Lightning Systems' battery-electric Ford Transit 350HD.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved the second generation model of Lightning Systems' battery-electric Ford Transit 350HD.
With the executive order, deliveries of the electric van are available for fleets in California, according to Lightning Systems. The vehicle is available for sale nationwide and in California. Lightning Systems has been accepting orders since May, when the vehicle was first announced.
Lightning Systems, a developer of zero-emission drivetrains for commercial and government fleets, announced the introduction of the longer-range, higher-speed Generation 2 model earlier in the year.
The new Generation 2 all-electric powertrain has 20% longer range than the previous generation, with battery configuration options for 60 or 120-mile ranges.
The latest powertrain offers peak power of 215 hp, a torque rating of 733 lb.-ft., and a top speed of 65 mph. The full-electric system is available for the Ford Transit passenger van, cargo van, cutaway, and chassis cab models. The Gen 2 product achieves 61 mpge on certified dyno testing, compared to 13 mpg for the gasoline version of the same vehicle.
Incentives are available for fleets looking to make transitions to electric vehicles, according to Lightning Systems. The Hybrid and Zero Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP), formed by CARB, was created as a response to a key market challenge by making clean trucks and buses more affordable for fleets.
