California Highway Patrol Seeks to Educate Public about Driving Near Big Trucks
MONTEREY PARK, CA - The California Highway Patrol has launched a public awareness campaign aimed at reducing the risk of accidents caused by drivers making unsafe lane changes and turns near commercial trucks.
MONTEREY PARK, CA - The California Highway Patrol has launched a public awareness campaign aimed at reducing the risk of accidents caused by drivers making unsafe lane changes and turns near commercial trucks.
The campaign will offer free safety seminars at schools, churches and businesses. Officers will instruct drivers proper following distances, how to make safer lane changes and how to be more aware of truck drivers' blind spots.
The campaign will also place 20 teams of CHP officers to high-risk freeway locations. Violators will be subject to court fines.
In 2006, 46 people in Los Angeles County died in collisions involving a car and a commercial truck.
The campaign will run through Sept. 31.
