BALTIMORE - Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) announced that two of its employees have been honored by the Maryland Motor Truck Association (MMTA) for their efforts and commitment to promote safe driving in the workplace.

Richard G. Anderson, senior utility instructor for BGE, was honored with MMTA’s 2011 Lynwood M. Robinson Safety Supervisor of the Year award. This is the second time that Anderson has received this award, making him the only person in the history of the award to receive it more than once. This prestigious award has also been renamed the Richard G. Anderson Award, in recognition of Anderson’s contributions to improving highway safety in Maryland as well as his contributions to MMTA.

A second BGE employee, Steve Brubach, supply chain material handler-driver, was honored with the MMTA Driver of the Month award. Brubach was recognized for his safe driving record, community involvement and volunteer work. Brubach is the sixth BGE employee in the past seven years to receive this award. Brubach and his peers in BGE’s material delivery department have driven accident free during a six-year timeframe, accumulating over two million miles.

“At BGE, safety is not only a core value, but a way of life, as evidenced by the accomplishments and recognition of these two employees,” said Christie D. McMullen, vice president of business transformation and chief safety officer for BGE. “As a long-time officer of the MMTA and a 40-year BGE employee, Richard Anderson’s award is not only a personal achievement, but it also speaks to the relentless focus that the entire BGE community places on safety each and every day. During restoration efforts following a storm or in routine day-to-day activities, safety is and always will be BGE’s number one priority. I am proud to see both Richard and Steve’s commitment to safe driving honored by the Maryland Motor Truck Association.”

MMTA is a non-profit, member-driven trade organization that has been serving Maryland's commercial trucking industry since 1935. Today, MMTA is one of the largest trucking associations in the country, representing 1,000 member companies. Maryland has more than 170,000 commercial drivers license (CDL) holders.
