How Fleet Management Can Attract the Next Generation of Technicians
ASE Drops Prerequisite for L4 ADAS Specialist Certification Test
ASE has dropped the prerequisite test requirements for the ASE Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Specialist Certification test (L4), so now more technicians will be able to take the test.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) has removed the prerequisite test requirements for the ASE Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Specialist Certification test (L4), allowing more fleet service professionals to take the test.
“Shops are performing more ADAS service and repairs than ever before, and it is important that they can demonstrate to their customers that the service professionals on staff can diagnose, service and calibrate ADAS on vehicles,” said Dave Johnson, president and CEO of ASE. “By removing the prerequisites to taking the L4 test, more service professionals are eligible to prepare for and take this challenging test.”
What the ASE L4 Test Covers
The ASE L4 test covers content focused on the diagnosis, service and calibration of radar, camera, ultrasonic and other advanced driver assistance systems. Many of the questions relate to a sample vehicle with ADAS technologies used by most manufacturers. This vehicle is described in the composite vehicle type 1 reference booklet provided as an electronic pop-up during the test.
“ASE certifications are the benchmark for recognizing knowledgeable service technicians,” Johnson said. “Because today’s vehicles are equipped with increasingly complex ADAS systems, vehicle owners must rely on the competency of service professionals to ensure their safety. Earning the L4 ADAS certification is the most effective way for a service professional to demonstrate the proficiency that both employers and customers value.”
