Truck Chat: Trucks, Tours & Tips - What Does AI Mean to Fleets?
Motive Uses AI to Catch Drivers Doing the Right Thing
Motive’s new AI model highlights positive driving in real time—helping fleets reward safety, boost morale, and reduce turnover.

Motive, the AI-powered Integrated Operations Platform, announced the global release of Positive Driving, a new AI model that automatically identifies safe and proactive driver behaviors, such as quickly reacting to obstacles or maintaining a safe following distance after being cut off.
By surfacing these moments in real time, Positive Driving enables fleet managers to coach through recognition, foster a more motivating safety culture, and reduce both accidents and driver turnover.
In transportation and logistics, where annual turnover rates often exceed 90% and safety risks are an ongoing concern, companies that lead with positive reinforcement see better outcomes. According to Motive, fleets using AI-powered recognition experience an average of 64% fewer safety incidents and 43% lower turnover.
AI Recognition Boosts Engagement and Safety
Recognition is one of the most effective ways to boost morale, increase engagement, and retain drivers. Motive’s AI makes that easier by automatically spotting and surfacing positive driving moments as they happen. In high-risk industries, a more engaged workforce can translate directly into improved safety and job satisfaction.
Motive’s Positive Driving is powered by a highly accurate AI model that flags smart driving behaviors in real time. Each flagged moment is then validated within seconds by Motive’s Safety Team—the only expert team of its kind in the industry. Combined with Motive’s unsafe behavior detection, the platform now delivers a full view of driver performance. Fleet managers can coach more constructively, celebrate smart decisions, and build stronger, safer teams.

Real-Time Insights Highlight Driver Excellence
Positive Driving redefines how fleets use AI dashcams to improve operations. Managers can now identify and celebrate safe driving moments without manually reviewing hours of footage. Instead of focusing only on unsafe behaviors, fleet leaders are equipped with positive examples to praise at scale—encouraging drivers to be more open to coaching and continuous improvement.
“One of our drivers avoided what could have been a really bad accident when a truck made an illegal U-turn right in front of him,” said Karol Smith, director of transport safety at Estes Forwarding Worldwide. “Motive Positive Driving gave us instant visibility into his quick thinking, and we were able to praise him for his defensive driving.”
The following Positive Driving event insights are now available in the Motive Dashboard:
Alert Driving: Identifies when a driver quickly reacts to unexpected obstacles such as swerving vehicles, road debris, animals, or pedestrians.
Safe Distancing: Detects when a driver slows down to maintain a safe following distance after being cut off.
“With Positive Driving, we’re giving companies an easy way to recognize excellence on the road in order to build trust and increase employee engagement,” said Hemant Banavar, chief product officer at Motive. “By automatically surfacing the moments that matter, Positive Driving turns everyday decisions into powerful coaching opportunities that lead to safer fleets and stronger teams.”
