According to David Renschler, public works fleet division manager for the City of Fairfield, California, the phrase “The devil is in the details” is none more important than electric vehicle infrastructure planning and execution. “If your organization is just starting its EV infrastructure process, there will be many questions you don’t even know yet to ask,” he maintains.

Renschler invites fleet managers to join him and Doug Bond, deputy director, Building Maintenance Dept. for Alameda County, for deep-dive workshop on EV infrastructure at the 2021 Fleet Forward Conference. “We’re going to help you answer those questions,” Renschler said. “Even the little things can become a big problem when it comes time to install infrastructure or modify technicians’ shops.”

The session will cover Renschler and Bond’s real-life lessons learned on electrification infrastructure for light-, medium-, heavy-duty, off-road, and transit vehicles. The duo will share insights into construction considerations, service shop modifications, LCFS credits, utility negotiations, real estate and parking issues, technical specifications, software requirements, and more — all with a realistic view of budget limitations.

Both Renschler and Bond are already veterans of EV infrastructure projects in the public sector. Bond has overseen the installation of Alameda County’s 121 charging stations network. Renschler, in addition to overseeing the City of Fairfield’s electrification infrastructure efforts, has also received the East Bay Clean Cities Coalition “Clean Air Champion” Award.

“This session is for fleets, by fleets,” said Chris Brown, conference chair. “David and Doug live this, and they’ll be sharing their unbiased, unvarnished views on getting infrastructure done. This seminar goes beyond government fleets to any fleet type ready to take the first steps.”

The seminar “EV Infrastructure Planning and Execution from the Trenches” takes place Nov. 12 at 10:30am. Registration for the 2021 Fleet Forward Conference, convening Nov. 10-12 at Hayes Mansion in San Jose, is open. The full schedule will be announced soon.

Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
