Wal-Mart Drivers Get New Trucks for Driving Safely

PLAINVIEW, TX- The Wal-Mart Transportation Division is awarding brand new rigs to drivers who log 3 million miles without being in a preventable accident. Drivers who reach the milestone earn their very own truck and determine its color in addition to other customized features, according to the Plainview Daily Herald.
Eight drivers in Plainview's Wal-Mart Transportation Division have reached the 3 million safe mile plateau, by far the most of any other fleet office, according to Ted Baker, general transportation manager. Baker said the most any other office in the company has is two.
"There are 19 (3 million safe mile drivers) company-wide, and we have eight," Baker said during his office's annual safety breakfast held Dec. 12 at Plainview Convention Center. Four more of the company's drivers are expected to reach 3 million safe miles within the next year.
Plainview's 235 Wal-Mart drivers logged 25 million safe miles in 2009, an average of more than 106,000 miles. They recorded 3 million safe miles three times, including once reaching 5 million safe miles.
Baker also pointed out that Wal-Mart for the first time received the American Trucking Association's President's Trophy recognizing it for being the safest company in fleets that drive at least 100 million miles.
The Wal-Mart Transportation Division includes 320 employees, including drivers, shop personnel, and office associates, reported the Herald.
