Trimble recently rolled out its new Engage Lane solution, an agile transportation procurement platform that assists shippers and carriers in uncovering better ways of moving contracted freight together.

The freight procurement process has traditionally been a drawn-out, labor-intensive affair that involves emails, spreadsheets, phone calls, and a lot of time. Engage Lane eases three major areas of this process:

  1. Streamlines the bid workflow.

  2. Connects both the shipper and the carrier TMS to create an EDI connection so freight tenders can happen right away.

  3. Holds both the shipper and the carrier accountable to the lane agreement with scorecards

In the platform, shippers can enter details on the lanes they need serviced, and carriers can bid on that freight. Once the shipper and carrier agree to do business together, they can start tendering freight as soon as they are both aligned – sometimes in as little as a few days.

Additionally, commercial location data from Trimble’s Places and routing algorithms from PC*MILER provide dwell times and mileage, streamlining the connection between shippers and carriers to amplify Engage Lane’s capability to move freight faster.

Improving Ways to Move Frieght

This platform gives many small and mid-size carriers access to large shippers they previously may not have been able to – no need to go door-knocking or spend precious resources to get on the right list. On the flip side, shippers can access capacity from carriers that they may not have known about previously.

Trimble showcased the platform at FreightWaves’ 2022 Future of Freight Festival (F3) in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

A seven-minute demo showed how the platform streamlines the relationship between carriers and shippers and helps them uncover better ways to move freight.
