Amazon has placed its largest-ever order of more than 200 battery-electric heavy goods vehicles, selecting the flagship Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 from Mercedes-Benz Trucks. This order also marks the largest purchase of electric trucks in the manufacturer’s history.

The zero-emission trucks will be deployed across Amazon’s middle-mile network, transporting cargo containers between fulfillment centers, sort centers, and delivery stations. More than 140 of the trucks will be used in the UK, with over 50 set to operate in Germany. In total, the fleet is expected to transport more than 350 million packages with zero-exhaust emissions.

The order follows Amazon’s testing of a near-series prototype of the eActros 600 at one of its logistics centers in Germany.

A Milestone in Sustainable Transportation

Karin Rådström, chairwoman of the board of management at Daimler Truck AG, underscored the significance of the collaboration: “We are very pleased that Amazon, a pioneer in the transformation toward alternative drives, has chosen the eActros 600, a gamechanger for sustainable transportation.”

Stina Fagerman, head of marketing, sales, and services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, added: “Amazon is an important customer for us on the path toward CO2-neutral transport. A near-series prototype of the eActros 600 has already been trialed by Amazon, providing valuable insights before the start of series production. We are therefore very pleased about this major order for the eActros 600.”

Andreas Marschner, vice president of worldwide operations sustainability at Amazon, emphasized Amazon’s commitment to decarbonizing its logistics operations: “The order of more than 200 eActros 600 underlines our commitment to being a leader in electrifying our transportation network in Europe. It is the biggest electric heavy truck order by Amazon to date anywhere in the world and is an important step as we work to achieve our Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040.”

About the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600

The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 stands out for its high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt-hours, hence the “600” in its name. This capacity, combined with an efficient, in-house-developed electric drive axle, allows the truck to achieve a range of 500 kilometers (about 310 miles) without intermediate charging under realistic conditions with a gross combination weight of 40 tons.

With intermediate charging during mandated driver breaks, the eActros 600 will be capable of covering more than 1,000 kilometers per day, even without the upcoming megawatt charging system (MCS). The truck currently supports CCS charging up to 400 kW, with megawatt charging capabilities planned for the future.

Visually, the eActros 600 features a minimalist design with clear lines and an aerodynamic shape aimed at maximizing efficiency. Mercedes-Benz Trucks expects the eActros 600 to set new standards for profitability in long-haul transport, with the potential to replace the majority of diesel trucks in this key logistics segment over time.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has developed a comprehensive solution for long-haul electrification, offering fleet operators vehicle technology, consulting, charging infrastructure, and services through the new TruckCharge brand.

Proven Performance in Real-World Testing

The eActros 600 has demonstrated its capabilities in multiple real-world scenarios. The truck participated in the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024,” a 15,000-kilometer all-electric journey across 22 countries with a gross combination weight of 40 tons.

The eActros 600 has also earned significant recognition within the industry, being named “International Truck of the Year 2025.” This award, presented annually by the International Truck of the Year organization, is judged by 24 commercial vehicle journalists from across Europe.
