Bernice Siegel Singer, who founded what would become Merchants Fleet, has died at her home in Manchester, N.H. She was 94.
Singer founded Merchants Automotive Group with her late husband, Irving, in 1962, when they opened used car dealership Merchants Motors in Manchester. Five years later, they started a fleet leasing business that has evolved into Merchants Fleet, which is now based in Hooksett, N.H. Merchants Fleet is the eighth largest fleet management company in the U.S.

The automotive dealership continues to operate as Merchants Auto and is now the largest pre-owned dealer in the state.
Singer was an active philanthropist who gave back to organizations such as Hadassah, Temple Israel Sisterhood, the Webster House, the American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross.
She leaves behind seven children, including Stephen Singer, Alan Singer, Robert Singer, Jeffrey Singer, Gary Singer, Joy Sydney, and Stewart Singer.
Merchants now has four owners, including Gary, Robert, Jeffrey, and Michael Sydney. Gary is also chairman of the board. Robert is the president. Jeffrey and Michael Sydney are vice presidents.
