SARASOTA, FL - Dock-N-Lock LLC has developed a patented solution that will provide business owners and parents some peace of mind in their fight against cell phone distracted driving.

Dock-N-Lock LLC, a family operated business headquartered in Sarasota, Fla., has partnered up with Mobile Rugged Technologies, leaders in military grade electronics, to create a device that can withstand the use and abuse of truck drivers and teenagers alike.

Over the next few months, Dock-N-Lock LLC plans to release a solution that actually removes the cell phone from the driver’s hands while they are driving. Once installed in either a commercial fleet or residential vehicle, the device disables the vehicle from starting until the driver’s phone is secure in a locker component. For the driver, this makes texting and driving virtually impossible.

The solution, named Surge’ON, will be sold as a fleet safety product and to families, taking the decision making out of the hands of the drivers. Safer “hands-free” features like Bluetooth will be available, but only if permitted by the administrator of the device, not the driver. “Some of the major benefits,” says co-founder and CEO Ron Pothul, “are it is the only solution that removes the cell phone from the driver’s hands while driving, it works with all phone makes and models, and most importantly the driver cannot disable it."

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were more than 3,000 deaths and 600,000 accidents last year alone caused by distracted driving. Many of these were preventable if the driver wasn’t using a hand-held device. A split second is all it takes. In fact, the average text takes the driver’s eyes off the road for five seconds. This is enough time to travel the length of a football field going 40MPH.

Jeff Pothul, CIO of Dock-N-Lock LLC says, “We wanted to come up with a simple solution to a very complex problem. Being connected today is a way of life, but at no time should we compromise the safety of our children or others on the road.” For more information about distracted driving and Dock-N-Lock’s solution go tohttp://www.dock-n-lock.com or contact them at 941-870-2053.
