The government committee tabled its report on the Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Bill 2012 on Feb. 7.
In the report, the government committee said it supported the development of a single, consolidated body of heavy vehicle national laws, because it would significantly reduce the regulatory burden on the freight industry.
“The extensive consultation undertaken by the heavy vehicle regulator and state and territory governments has ensured the majority of industry stakeholders are supportive of the national law process and are keen to see the new legislation passed by the relevant parliaments,” the government committee said in the report.
ATA Chairman David Simon, Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association Vice President Liz Schmidt and Queensland Trucking Association CEO Peter Garske gave evidence before the committee in January.
