Tesla to Wind Down Cybertruck Production in Texas by Mid-2027
Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas factory to make room for Cybercab, leaving questions about the pickup’s future.

Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas factory around mid-2027 to make room for increased Cybercab production, according to CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of 2027, CEO Elon Musk announced on X. The move would make room for increased production of the company’s Cybercab robotaxi.
“Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production,” Musk wrote in the post on X.
The announcement leaves a key question unanswered for businesses considering the electric pickup. Musk did not specify whether Tesla would discontinue Cybertruck production entirely or move it to another facility, according to Reuters.
U.S. Sales Fell Nearly Half in 2025
Kelley Blue Book’s 2025 electric vehicle sales report estimated U.S. Cybertruck sales at 20,237 vehicles in 2025, down 48.1% from 38,965 in 2024. Those figures represent overall model sales and do not identify how many went to small businesses or fleet buyers.
Tesla’s own production and delivery reporting groups vehicles into Model 3/Y and “Other Models,” rather than providing a separate Cybertruck total. That limits what the publicly reported numbers reveal about the pickup’s use in business fleets.
For now, the announced timeline concerns production at the Texas plant. Whether Cybertruck production will continue elsewhere remains unclear.
