SureCam and Blackout Technologies Launch Video Telematics with Integrated Mobile Device Blocking
SureCam and Blackout Technologies have developed a fleet dashcam featuring mobile device blocking capability.

SureCam’s camera features the ability to block cellphone use while a vehicle is in motion and a delay function to prevent phone use in stop-and-go traffic.

SureCam, a video telematics solutions provider, has teamed up with Blackout Technologies to develop a fleet dashcam with mobile device blocking that helps tackle the dangers of smartphone distraction. The integrated solution is designed to eliminate the use of messaging apps, social media platforms, streaming, and internet browsing when driving.
“There is growing evidence that distraction from smartphone use is responsible for a large proportion of road collisions, so fleets are looking at ways to improve concentration levels behind the wheel and encourage responsible driving habits,” said Sam Footer, partnership director at SureCam. “By bringing together our leading dashcam solutions with Blackout Technologies’ device blocking tool, we can eliminate driver actions that dangerously divert attention away from the road.”
No Additional Hardware Costs
The fully integrated solution does not require any additional hardware or installation costs. The Blackout Technologies app, installed on the driver’s smartphone, connects directly to the dashcam without the need for a separate Bluetooth beacon.
The app activates when the vehicle is in motion, restricting encrypted messaging tools, the camera, and other popular apps while preventing incoming notifications for the duration of the journey. It also includes a two-minute delay to prevent drivers using their smartphone when in stationary traffic.
“By removing temptation and fostering improved concentration, our mobile device blocking tool makes it possible to prevent many avoidable road injuries and deaths, while enhancing overall driver and fleet performance,” said Mark Hadley, CEO of Blackout Technologies.
“The blocking tool can be integrated with our entire dashcam range, providing an effective alternative to a driver-facing AI camera that detects and discourages driver distraction and mobile phone use. Blackout Technologies becomes the latest partner to join our video-enabled telematics ecosystem, which offers the most comprehensive range of integrated technologies to meet precise fleet and risk management requirements,” Footer added.
Automated Alerts After Collision
When a suspected collision has occurred, based on the detection of a high g-force event, the technology will send a push notification to the driver within seconds to verify the incident and check on their welfare.
An alert is then sent to the fleet manager and/or the claims management provider to provide a swift response.
