Utilities Recognized for Emergency Response Efforts
The Edison Electric Institute, which represents investor-owned electric utilities, presented awards to member organizations for their emergency response efforts in 2017.

Several utilities were recognized for their emergency response by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the association that represents investor-owned electric utilities.
The Emergency Recovery Award is presented to recognize energy companies’ extraordinary efforts to restore power to customers after service disruptions caused by severe weather conditions or other natural events. DTE Energy was one of the recipients. Southeast Michigan experienced six hours of wind gusts greater than 60 mph in March 2017, resulting in extensive damage to the region’s energy system. It was the largest weather event in DTE Energy’s history, and nearly 800,000 DTE customers were affected. Crews worked to restore service to more than 90% of customers in four days.
Va.-based Dominion Energy and Ohio-based FirstEnergy received the Emergency Assistance Award, which recognizes an outstanding response in assisting other electric companies in power restoration efforts after severe weather or other natural events.
