After a three-year hiatus, Toyota is returning the Land Cruiser for the 2024 model year in North America. The new Land Cruiser will be a high-quality off-roader, staying true to its rugged heritage.

It will be built on the TNGA-F global truck platform and come with a range-topping i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, producing 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. According to the manufacturer, the new model will be slightly smaller and more agile on the trails than the previous generation.

The Land Cruiser will have a simple grade structure, with three available grades: Land Cruiser 1958, Land Cruiser, and the limited-run Land Cruiser First Edition. It will offer a variety of off-road features, including multi-terrain select, CRAWL control, and downhill assist control.

The vehicle’s design will be "authentic, reliable, timeless, and professional, with a signature Land Cruiser look featuring iconic LED headlights and a heritage grille," according to a company statement. The 2024 Land Cruiser will also come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, an active safety and convenience system suite.

The new Land Cruiser will be manufactured in Japan and arrive in the U.S. in the spring of 2024. The manufacturer’s suggested retail pricing will start in the mid-$50,000 range and be available in seven exterior color choices.

Limited to 5,000 units for the first two months of production, Land Cruiser will be offered in a First Edition grade that includes two new two-tone paint colors and additional off-road equipment.

A History of Land Cruiser Heritage

After its debut in the U.S. market in 1958, the Land Cruiser underwent a series of transformations. It started with the iconic two-door models like the 40 Series, featuring a fold-down front windshield, a white roof, and rear jump seats. Over the years, it evolved into the capable and fully loaded 200 Series, which marked the final generation available for sale in the States.

Did you know when Land Cruiser first arrived in the U.S., Toyota only sold one in the first year?

Once the 40 Series arrived, Toyota noted that the vehicle became the best-selling Toyota vehicle in the U.S. for five years.

Limited to 5,000 units for the first two months of production, Land Cruiser will be offered in a First Edition grade that includes two new two-tone paint colors and additional off-road equipment.

“This icon belongs in our lineup,” said Toyota group vice president and general manager Dave Christ. “For 2024, Land Cruiser returns to its origin with a heritage-inspired design paired with the legendary capability and durability Land Cruiser is known for, and it will take even more customers on adventures across the globe as it has done for generations.”

The 2024 Land Cruiser will also come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, an active safety and convenience system suite.

An All-New Off-Road Offering

A newly developed double-wishbone front suspension with twin-tube shocks pairs with a multi-link rear suspension with coil springs. To provide an improved steering feel and facilitate the incorporation of additional safety and convenience features, Land Cruiser will feature electric power steering, and all models feature 17-inch disc brakes front and rear. Land Cruisers can tow up to 6,000 pounds with a trailer hitch standard on all grades.

The Land Cruiser offers the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain standard on all grades, combining a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine with a 48-hp electric motor and an 8-speed transmission.

  • A full-time four-wheel drive system with a center-locking differential.

  • Electronically controlled two-speed transfer case.

  • Vehicle stability control (VSC).

  • An automatic limited-slip differential (Auto LSD) for enhanced handling on diverse terrains.
