Fiat-Chrysler's Ram Commercial has developed a mobile app for tablets that allows fleet and business customers to view possible upfits when purchasing one of the 14 configurations of the ProMaster cargo van.
The app, ProMaster Augmented Reality, provides visual overlays onto a live feed of the van through the app. Ram showed the app to Automotive Fleet at AutoMobility LA, the trade show preceding the Los Angeles Auto Show.

"By viewing the Ram ProMaster on a tablet, it triggers a program that allows you to view different configurations of the vehicle to match customer needs," said Nick Cappa, a Ram spokesman. "The next step is to identify the appropriate upfits for the vehicle."
FCA is expected to provide the app to its dealers, especially commercial dealers that cater to business and fleet users. The app should be available in the first quarter of 2017.
The app includes several categories, including HVAC, delivery, plumber and electrician. Users can select the category, and then view the upfit that's appropriate for their vehicle. The app could also be provided to upfitters for use with larger commercial fleets, Cappa said.
"You can show the customer what types of systems are available to them in the Ram ProMaster van," Cappa said. "It's a great enabler for a sales force or upfitter force that really needs to understand and learn about the different upfits that are available."
