WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Mack Trucks Inc. is recalling 10,300 MY 2004-2005 heavy trucks equipped with axle beams manufactured by Bharat Forge. The trucks were manufactured from Oct. 1, 2003 through Sept. 30, 2004.
The axle beam may have transverse shear lines on the bottom of the axle from the trimming process. If present, these lines can create cracks, which over time can lead to axle beam failure and increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Mack will notify owners and inspect and replace any affected axle beams free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin around the end of this month.
You can reach Mack at (800) 866-1177.
