General Motors has promoted Duncan Aldred to the role of senior vice president and president of GM North America, effective immediately.
Aldred most recently served as vice president of commercial growth strategies and operations. In his new role, he joins GM’s senior leadership team and will report to Rory Harvey, GM executive vice president and president of Global Markets.
Focus on Fleet Sales, Growth, and Flexibility
According to Harvey, Aldred’s new position comes with a “clear mandate” to build on GM’s sales momentum, capitalize on its broad portfolio, and maintain agility amid a rapidly shifting external environment.
“Duncan comes to the role leading our North America business having driven a decade of growth in Buick and GMC,” said Harvey. “He’s also modernized our commercial operations to better serve our customers. This change supports our strategy to offer unrivaled choice across our ICE and EV portfolio, from brands customers know and trust.”
A Proven Track Record of Brand Growth
Aldred emphasized GM’s market strength and the commitment of its team.
“With the best and broadest portfolio in the business and a team that is totally focused on our customers, GM is in a strong position in North America,” he said.
He added that he’s eager to continue collaborating with teams, dealers, and partners “to bring our customers the best possible sales and ownership experience with GM, so that we can continue to win in North America.”
Aldred’s GM career spans 33 years, beginning with roles in sales, service, and marketing. He served as chairman and managing director of Vauxhall in the UK in 2010 and moved on to oversee Opel’s global sales, marketing, and aftersales in 2013.
In 2014, he was appointed VP of global GMC and Buick. During his tenure, Aldred launched the Buick Avenir and GMC AT4 sub-brands, helped GMC pickup sales hit record highs, and transitioned Buick’s focus from sedans to SUVs. He also drove strong dealer satisfaction scores and helped both brands secure decade-long spots among the top two in JD Power’s annual Customer Sales and Service Satisfaction rankings.
Most recently, in 2024, Aldred stepped into his VP role focused on commercial growth strategies, where he worked to modernize GM’s customer experience and expand services such as GM Energy, GM Envolve, OnStar, Customer Care and Aftersales, and Digital Sales and Service.
