Chevrolet has unveiled the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500, bringing a redesigned full-size pickup lineup to market with new powertrain options, updated technology, and continued emphasis on commercial and fleet applications.

Expected to arrive later this year, the new Silverado maintains four powertrain choices while introducing next-generation 5.7L and 6.6L V-8 engines. The lineup also includes an enhanced 2.7L TurboMax engine paired with a 10-speed transmission, as well as the Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel. Chevrolet said the truck builds on more than a century of truck development while advancing capability, connectivity, and design for modern customers.

New V8 Engines Lead Powertrain Updates

A significant portion of the Silverado update centers on its powertrain lineup. Chevrolet says the new 5.7L and 6.6L V-8 engines are designed to deliver increased power and torque while maintaining the durability and reliability expected from full-size work trucks.

The engines will be assembled at GM's Flint Engine Operations, Tonawanda Propulsion, and St. Catharines Propulsion facilities. According to Chevrolet, the engines underwent extensive testing and validation to ensure they can withstand demanding towing applications and daily commercial use.

For fleet operators, the continued availability of multiple powertrain choices remains notable. The TurboMax continues as the standard engine, while customers who prefer traditional V8 performance retain two gasoline options. The Duramax diesel also remains available, providing an alternative for fleets prioritizing fuel efficiency and long-distance hauling capability.

A Work Truck That Remains Focused on Commercial Needs

The Work Truck trim continues to serve as the entry point for commercial and fleet customers, with Chevrolet emphasizing durability, serviceability, and uptime.

According to the automaker, the truck's configurations are optimized to accommodate common upfits used by construction contractors, utility companies, municipalities, and commercial service fleets. Chevrolet said the next-generation V8 engines were tuned with durability and consistency in mind, characteristics that can influence the total cost of ownership and vehicle availability across fleet operations.

Inside, the Work Truck maintains a straightforward approach that simplifies operation for drivers while making the cabin easier to clean and maintain. Chevrolet said this approach helps support organizations operating larger fleets with multiple drivers using the same vehicles.

Digital Technology Comes Standard

One of the most significant changes for 2027 is the expansion of digital technology across the Silverado lineup.

Every Silverado now receives a standard 16.3-inch center touchscreen and 12.2-inch driver information center. The new digital cockpit provides access to navigation, vehicle information, media controls, and trailering technologies through a unified interface.

For fleet organizations, standardization of display technology across trims may simplify driver familiarization and training while providing access to connected-vehicle features that support modern fleet operations.

The Silverado also receives enhanced safety and driver-assistance technologies, along with core connectivity features intended to support both business and consumer users. Higher trims add available features such as dual wireless charging, a front passenger display, a head-up display, and Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance technology with trailering capability.

Revised Trim Strategy

Chevrolet is reorganizing the Silverado portfolio into seven trims: Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country.

The move includes renaming the former LT trim as simply "Silverado." Chevrolet said the revised structure is intended to provide clearer choices for customers while maintaining a progression from work-focused models to premium and off-road-oriented offerings.

The company also noted that Silverado 4WD models will now include the Z71 package as standard equipment. Features include skid plates, hill descent control, and off-road suspension components.

The 2027 Silverado 1500 will be assembled at GM's full-size truck facilities in North America. Chevrolet plans to announce pricing and additional availability details later this year.
