Ford is giving the 2026 Transit lineup a major technology upgrade that fleet managers will feel inside the cab. The exterior stays familiar, but the new model year adds a digital cluster, a standard 12 inch center screen with SYNC 4, upgraded driver assistance features and expanded connectivity.

Fleet managers may recall the Transit won the Work Truck Commercial Van of the Year back-to-back, and voting is open now for this year's award!

Every 2026 Transit now comes with a standard 8 inch multifunction display, Ford Co Pilot360 2.0, enhanced over the air update capability and a 5G modem with Wi Fi for up to 10 devices. The updates support full access to Ford Pro Telematics and Fleet Management tools. Remote acceleration limiter, fleet start inhibit and the next generation Vehicle Integration System 2.0 give fleet operators better control over safety, security and upfitting.

Ford reports that 98% of the 1.5 million Transit vans assembled in the United States since 2014 are still in service. The brand also posted 42,503 Transit sales in the third quarter, up 32.3% year over year, and is on track for a record year.

Transit and E Transit by the Numbers

Transit Durability and Scale

  • More than 1.5 million Transit vans have been assembled in the United States since 2014

  • Ford says 98% of Transits sold in the past 10 years are still on the road

E Transit Adoption

  • E Transit was America’s best selling electric van in 2024

  • Sales of E Transit rose 30% in the first quarter of 2025

  • E Transit drivers have saved more than 3 million gallons of gasoline and 25 million kilograms of CO2 since 2022

Interior and Driver Assistance Updates

Along with new screens and software, the 2026 Transit brings keyless push button start and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Passenger Wagon XLT models add the full Co Pilot360 Assist 2.0 package with adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering, predictive speed assist, a 360 degree camera and blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert.

Gas models also add Exit Warning, which alerts occupants to approaching cyclists or pedestrians before a door is opened.

How Has the 2026 Transit Improved Upfits and Everyday Usability?

Vehicle Integration System 2.0 is available to help simplify electrical and equipment upfits. Additional updates include:

  • Optional 253 degree rear door hinges on high roof Passenger Vans.

  • New taillamps with integrated blind spot sensors when equipped.

  • Standard tire inflator and sealant kit on single rear wheel Cargo Vans.

  • Close Assist on mid and high roof vans to help with easier sliding door operation.

What New Specs and Options Do Fleets Need to Know for 2026?

Ford says the 2026 Transit lineup continues to offer 37 configurations across multiple roof heights, body lengths and wheelbases, and GVWR ratings remain similar to the current model year. Payload and towing specs were not changed in this update.

Single rear wheel Cargo Vans now make the spare tire optional, so fleets that operate in rural or off road environments may want to add it back in at ordering. For electric models, Ford has not announced new range figures, but the updated heat pump and optional dual chargers are intended to improve cold weather efficiency and reduce charging downtime.

A new fleet only color, Wild Green Metallic, is also available.

What’s New for E Transit in 2026?

The 2026 E Transit sees several updates aimed at improving real world usability, especially for fleets operating in mixed climates or specialty applications.

A new 156 inch wheelbase option is now offered for Cutaway and Chassis Cab models. This opens the door for more specialized bodies, including service, delivery and shuttle builds where interior volume and equipment layout are critical.

Cold weather performance also gets attention. The standard vapor injection heat pump is designed to improve cabin and battery conditioning efficiency, which can help preserve range in low temperatures. This should be a noticeable benefit for fleets in northern regions or operators with early morning cold starts.

Charging flexibility improves as well. Dual onboard chargers are now available as an option. This setup allows fleets to take advantage of higher charging speeds on Level 2 infrastructure and can shorten turnaround times for vans that run tight schedules. A single charger remains standard.

These updates build on the E Transit’s existing configurations and upfit support, helping fleets tailor electric models to heavier duty roles while keeping operating costs predictable.

What Engines Power the 2026 Ford Transit?

The gas lineup continues with two 3.5L V-6 engines paired with a 10 speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive, with all wheel drive available on select models. The naturally aspirated Port Fuel Direct Injection (PFDI) 3.5L V-6 is rated at 275 horsepower and 260 pound feet of torque. The 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 produces 300 horsepower and 400 pound feet of torque. Both engines use aluminum blocks and heads with double overhead cams and are compatible with regular unleaded or E85 fuel.

E Transit remains the all electric option in the lineup and continues to offer multiple cargo, cutaway and chassis cab configurations with up to 487 cubic feet of cargo volume, depending on body and roof height. Ford Pro E Telematics data shows E Transit drivers have avoided more than 3 million gallons of gasoline and more than 25 million kilograms of carbon dioxide since 2022, which can help support fleet sustainability and emissions reporting goals.

Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
