Continental, a tire and automotive technology supplier, has launched a new lineup of General tires for regional on/off-road all position use called General Grabber OA 2 and OA 2 Wide Base (WB). These second-generation tires have a new tread compound to improve mileage, chip and chunk resistance, and protect the casing to allow for multiple retreads, according to Continental.

"Drivers should expect a reduction of road noise and improved comfort with the new tread design and tread compound. Fleets should experience better fuel economy with better rolling resistance,” said Helmut Keller, Continental’s Head of Product Management.

The industries that benefit from these heavy-duty tires are:

  • Construction.
  • Material transport.
  • Cement.
  • Utility.
  • Emergency vehicles.
  • Heavy haul and special loads.
  • Mining/quarry.

With this announcement, Continental noted that it will be phasing out the General Grabber OA and OA WB tire.

The General Grabber OA 2 on/off road all position tire features 22/32” and 24/32” tread depth and a sidewall profile with curb rib to reduce damage from curbing, cuts and abrasions. The patented innovative groove technology leads to minimum stone retention through a stone ejection system and extends casing life. The tire casing is constructed with four belts and a closed-shoulder four rib tread design allowing versatility in all wheel positions.

Continental noted that drivers should see up to 19% mileage improvement and up to 5% chip and chunk resistance with the new General Grabber OA 2 when compared with its predecessor. This tire can also be sold with a sensor which connects many of Continental’s tire pressure monitoring systems including ContiConnect Live and ContiConnect Yard Reader to read tire pressure and temperature.

These heavy-duty truck tires are ideal for coal/waste haulers, logging, construction, school buses, and any on/off highway fleets. The General Grabber OA 2 includes a full warranty which guarantees three retreads or six years, whichever comes first.

The General Grabber OA2 will come in these different sizes with the corresponding load range:

  • 11R22.5 – H
  • 11R24.5 – H
  • 315/80R22.5 – L
  • 385/65R22.5 – L
  • 425/65R22.5 – L
  • 445/65R22.5 – L

The General Grabber OA 2 WB on/off road all position tire features 21/32”, 23/32” and 24/32” tread depth and an aggressive multi-service all position tread pattern to provide excellent traction. The thick under-tread resists casing penetrations and damage allowing for multiple retreads and extending the life of the tires. Continental noted that drivers should see up to 21% mileage improvement with the new General Grabber OA 2 WB when compared with its predecessor.

Vocations that would benefit the most from these truck tires are construction, refuse haulers, and heavy equipment fleets.

"We still wanted to offer the General Grabber OA 2 in wide base because many of our heavy haul fleets are looking to increase their carrying capacity while being more efficient with their resources. The 445/65R22.5 WB can carry up to 12,800lbs/130PSI per tire,” Keller added.

The General Grabber OA 2 WB includes a full warranty which guarantees three retreads or six years, whichever comes first.

The General Grabber OA2 WB will come in these different sizes with the corresponding load range.

  • 385/65R22.5 – L
  • 425/65R22.5 – L
  • 445/65R22.5 – L
