Utilities Send Reinforcements to Michigan

Jackson, Mich.-based Consumers Energy has been working since Wednesday to restore power, getting help from neighboring utility fleets. Destructive wind storms took down nearly 8,200 electric wires and broke more than 1,100 poles across 68 counties. An estimated 300,000 customers were affected by downed trees and power lines.
The utility said more than 2,000 employees are working to restore power, from line workers and damage assessors to wire guards and customer service representatives. An additional 181 crews from utilities in Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana are assisting Consumers Energy in the effort.
Consumers Energy expects restoration work to continue through Sunday.
