The University of Michigan Solar Car Team will show off some of its latest solar, electric vehicle technology featuring its 11th race vehicle ‘Quantum’ at the 2013 Green Fleet Conference & Expo. This national champion vehicle, which uses the same amount of energy as a household hair-dryer, is part of a project that began in 1990.

The University of Michigan’s student-run organization, the Solar Car Team, will join the 2013 Green Fleet Conference & Expo on Oct. 1-2 in Phoenix, Ariz. to show off its national championship car, Quantum. The car will be on display with student representatives present to share their story of how this technology has won the team international recognition as the most successful solar vehicle team in North America.

The 2013 Green Fleet Conference & Expo is geared toward fleets, highlighting all the latest technologies while providing workshops and seminars for fleet managers and other fleet-decision makers to learn about how to reduce their fleet’s petroleum use. The University of Michigan’s Solar Car will add to the dynamic exhibit hall, ride and drive, and educational sessions that cover a range of technologies — from propane and CNG to electric, hydrogen and ethanol.

The University of Michigan Solar Car Team was established in 1990 and has consistently produced top-ranking vehicles and has won the American Solar Challenge seven times and took third place in the World Solar Challenge five times.

Using the same amount of energy it takes to power a household hair-dryer, the Quantum model is the team’s 11th solar vehicle. This single-seat race vehicle reaches a maximum speed of 105 mph and took two years to build.

“The University of Michigan Solar Car Team is extremely excited about attending the upcoming Green Fleet Conference to present our solar car technology along with our green energy innovators,” said Ian Sullivan, the Team’s Interim Business Director. “The Conference is the premier industry event, which is a perfect fit for our advanced solar vehicle technology that is helping push forward a smarter and greener world.”

Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
