Oncor, the largest transmission and distribution electric utility in Texas, is delivering about 300 new vehicles to centers across its service area. Nearly half of these replacement vehicles are 37-foot bucket trucks.

The company’s 37-foot bucket trucks are Chevrolet Silverado 6500HD trucks that have been upfitted with a custom- body and boom.

New for this year, the trucks have been fitted with flashing blue lights which, according to Texas state law, can be displayed on utility service vehicles while stationary when providing a public service during an incident.

“Our employees can put a lot of miles on these vehicles in a short amount of time,” said Derek Hoopman, Oncor fleet manager, in a blog post. “Whether we’re upgrading our network facilities or responding to storm-related outages, these bucket trucks are usually on the job.”

According to the company’s blog, field vehicles are closely monitored and replaced every five to seven years.
