Solar energy and battery storage provider Sunrun just added approximately two dozen Ford F-150 Lightnings to its fleet.

The trucks have been deployed to the company’s locations in California and New Jersey, with a few in Illinois, Texas, and Colorado. The trucks will be used for training and equipment transportation, which includes solar panels, inverters, other hardware, etc.

According to Wyatt Semanek Sunrun’s senior manager corporate communications, this isn’t the company’s first electric vehicles (EVs).

“In addition to our Lightnings, we have a larger fleet of Toyota Priuses for sales operations and Ford E-Transit vans to transport larger amounts of installation equipment,” he said.

Sunrun’s Goal to Decrease Transportation Emissions

Sunrun aims to shift half its fleet to electric or hybrid vehicles by 2025. To help with this goal, Sunrun announced its partnership with Ford in 2021.

Semanek added, “Sunrun is Ford's preferred EV charging installer for the F-150 Lighting and the Charge Station Pro. We also co-developed the hardware (Home Integration System) that turns the Lightning into a backup energy source for homes during power outages. Because of the great relationship and shared mission to electrify transportation, selecting Ford Lightnings for Sunrun operations just makes sense ... not to mention the product is great.”

Although the Ford Lightnings are still new to the fleet, Sunrun plans on adding more to its fleet to help accomplish its emissions goal, according to Semanek.
