Stats Show Los Angeles Is Most Congested City in U.S. and Canada

TomTom has released the latest edition of Congestion Index, which compared traffic congestion levels in 2012 to those from 2011. The index looked at traffic congestion in 161 cities on five continents and congestion in 59 metropolitan areas with a population of more than 800,000 in the U.S. and Canada. The company looked at traffic congestion between July and September 2012.
According to TomTom’s data, the company found that Los Angeles is the most congested city in the U.S. and Canada. On average, a trip in Los Angeles takes 33% longer than average, when traffic is flowing freely, and 77% longer during evening rush hour.
TomTom also ranked the top 10 most-congested cities in the U.S. and Canada. They are as follows, with the number showing how much longer a trip takes when traffic is flowing freely:
