Crane Institute Certification (CIC) announced it will plan and manage at least eight Regional Crane Operator and Rigger Skills Competitions from Fall 2014 through Fall 2015.
Tentative locations include North Carolina and Alabama in the Southeast; as well as Northeast, Southwest, Northwest, and Midwest locations.
In addition, CIC said the Western regional competition will take place in Las Vegas, to be held in conjunction with World of Concrete, Feb. 3-6, 2015. The Western regional event is hosted by Crane Institute of America.
More than 50,000 professionals attend the show, which is dedicated to commercial concrete and masonry construction. In addition to the mobile crane operator competition, at World of Concrete, CIC will feature a tournament for knuckleboom crane operators.
“World of Concrete is the perfect venue in which to showcase CIC’s new certification program for operators of articulating boom cranes,” said Jim Headley, president of Crane Institute of America, Sanford, Fla. “Knuckleboom cranes are often used by foundation contractors for setting forms.”
Top qualifiers from the CIC Regionals will advance to a Championship, to be held at a high-profile venue in late 2015. The Championship is co-hosted by CIC and Crane & Rigging Hot Line magazine. Regional hosts will sponsor the travel and hotel expenses for the finalists to compete at the Championship.
