Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has submitted a proposal to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to install 7,600 electric vehicle charging stations. If approved, this will bring the utility’s EV charging stations up to 12,600, according to Scientific American.
This proposal has drawn some criticism, however. The project’s price tag is estimated at more than $160 million. Opponents fear that installing charging stations on such a large scale will be tough to compete with and critics also argue that the utility should start on a smaller scale.
