Mack Trucks expanded its Mack Granite Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) model line with the addition of the Allison 3000 Series transmission option paired with the Cummins L9N natural gas engine to provide waste customers with a cost-effective alternative when maximum gross vehicle weight ratings aren't required.
“This expanded powertrain option gives our customers more flexibility to optimize their trucks specifically for lighter duty waste applications,” said Jonathan Randall, president, Mack Trucks North America. “By offering the Allison 3000 paired with the L9N, we're delivering a solution that reduces acquisition costs while maintaining the reliability and performance Mack customers expect, particularly for light-duty roll-off applications where a higher GVWR isn't necessary.”
Reducing Powertrain Weight & Cost
Mack, in a statement, said the Allison 3000 Series transmission, when paired with the Cummins L9N, provides a lighter-weight, lower-cost option compared to the Allison 4500 configuration. The company said that this pairing is ideal for operators seeking to strike a balance between performance and cost efficiency in applications that don't require the higher gross vehicle weight rating.
The Cummins L9N natural gas engine delivers 320 horsepower and 1,000 ft.-lb. of torque while offering reduced emissions through its CNG power system. The engine is certified to the California Air Resources Board and EPA's Optional Low NOx emissions standard.
