As part of Distracted Driving Month, Idaho Power announced it will participate in a new pilot program with the Idaho Department of Transportation and Montana State University that aims to help businesses develop a distracted driving policy.

About 600 Idaho Power employees will participate in the pilot program, which includes taking a short survey to measure perceptions and practices about distracted driving. Once responses are received, the company will receive a tool kit and develop a distracted driving policy.

Employees will follow the policy for two to three months, after which the Idaho Department of Transportation will conduct a follow-up survey and Idaho Power will provide feedback.

"We’re trying to give them good feedback so that when they roll it out, it will be successful," said Vern Porter, chief safety officer, in a statement. "We’re hoping to help the State of Idaho reduce distracted driving."
