In the trucking industry, vehicle downtime equals lost revenue. Trucks that have been immobilized by tire-related problems need to get back on the road as quickly as possible.
“That’s why having access to a comprehensive emergency roadside service program is so important,” said Jose Martinez, business solutions manager, Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s 24/7 Emergency Roadside Service program recently helped its 1 millionth customer return to service.
“This significant achievement is a testament to the power of Goodyear’s 24/7 Emergency Roadside Service program,” which is offered through the Goodyear-FleetHQ suite of business solutions, said Martinez. (Goodyear-FleetHQ began offering Emergency Roadside Service in late-2007.)
A driver for Schneider National, a commercial trucking fleet, was driving near Floresville, Texas, when his truck ran over a road hazard, which caused one of its trailer tires to deflate.
After pulling over to the side of the road, parking his truck and inspecting the tire, the driver notified Schneider’s Emergency Maintenance department.
A Schneider call agent collected key information, including the truck’s location, and entered it into a form on the Goodyear Commercial Tire & Service Centers’ website.

“The data was then sent to our 24/7 Goodyear-FleetHQ Solution Center,” said Martinez. “A trained tire professional at the center dispatched a tire service technician from a San Antonio-based Goodyear Commercial Tire & Service Center, who drove out to the downed truck.”
The Goodyear Commercial Tire & Service Center technician replaced the truck’s flat trailer tire with a new Goodyear tire, which enabled it to return to service. The roll time? “Just one hour and 45 minutes from the moment the driver contacted the Schneider Emergency Maintenance department to the moment his truck was back on the road,” said Martinez.
Goodyear-FleetHQ Emergency Roadside Service delivers roll-time of two hours and 11 minutes, on average, “which makes a roll time of one hour and 45 minutes even more extraordinary,” he noted.
“Goodyear has been the primary tire supplier to Schneider for 27 consecutive years,” said Steve Graham, vice president, line haul purchasing, Schneider National. “High-quality tires and a comprehensive tire maintenance program help reduce the potential for truck downtime, but it sometimes happens.
