Genie Introduces Tool to Calculate Safe Loads for Aerial Lifts
The new Genie interactive tool provides site visitors the opportunity to choose different materials, attachments, and operators of various sizes to “place” on the virtual boom platform.
Terex Aerial Work Platforms introduced a new Genie interactive tool to calculate current capacity limits for aerial lifts, which can be used to educate customers on how the new technology will impact safe equipment use and productivity. The tool can be accessed online at www.genielift.com/xc.
Changes to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A92 standards are coming within the next year, and one of the more significant equipment changes is the addition of platform load sensing technology. It is important for contractors to understand how new aerial lifts, including Genie articulating and telescoping boom lifts, scissor lifts and low-level access lifts, will operate under the updated standards.
The new Genie interactive tool provides site visitors the opportunity to choose different materials, attachments, and operators of various sizes to “place” on the virtual boom platform. The tool then calculates the weight of materials, attachments, and operators.
If the load capacity exceeds the machine’s rated capacity, the virtual boom lift will not lift the load, highlighting how new industry-mandated platform load sense technology will disable machine function if the load is above the platform load limit. If the load capacity of the platform is within the machine’s rated capacity, the virtual boom lift will be available to operate within its operating envelope.
The announcement was made during OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, which took place May 8-12.
