Ford Motor Company kicked off 2025 with a solid performance in U.S. retail sales, marking the best first-quarter pickup sales in over 20 years. The company saw a 5% increase in overall sales, driven by strong March results, and a notable 19% jump in retail sales that month.

The F-Series continues its reign as America’s best-selling truck, and Ford's expanding lineup of electrified vehicles, along with off-road performance models, also contributed significantly to the quarter’s success.

What about fleet? Retail sales numbers are important for fleet managers as they reveal vehicle availability, pricing trends, and market demand. Strong sales can impact lead times and pricing, while also helping predict depreciation rates. By tracking these trends, fleet managers can make informed decisions on vehicle procurement and long-term fleet planning.

F-Series Sales Lead the Charge

Ford’s F-Series lineup once again led the way in the first quarter, with sales increasing by 24% year-over-year, totaling 190,389 units. The robust sales performance comes as no surprise given the range of options available to customers, including gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric models.

The versatility of the F-Series is unmatched in the marketplace, offering something for every type of truck customer.

March alone saw a 38% jump in F-Series sales, underscoring the ongoing popularity of these trucks. Along with the Ranger and Maverick models, total pickup sales for the quarter hit 243,317 units. The compact Ford Maverick also saw a record-breaking month in March, with 19,008 units sold, thanks in part to improved availability, according to Ford.

Electrified Vehicle Sales on the Rise

Ford’s electrified vehicles got off to a strong start in 2025, with total sales of 73,623 units in the first quarter, up 26% compared to the same period last year. This includes significant growth in both hybrid and electric vehicle segments, with hybrids up by 33% and full EV sales up by 12%.

The Mustang Mach-E electric SUV saw a record start with 11,607 units sold, despite limited inventory, while the E-Transit van, the best-selling electric van in the U.S., saw a 30% increase in sales, totaling 3,756 units.

Ford also continued its momentum in hybrid sales, with the F-150 hybrid seeing a 33% increase in demand, and the Maverick hybrid remains the best-selling hybrid pickup in America, with 21,414 units sold.

Off-Road Performance: Bronco Sales Surge

Ford’s off-road performance vehicle segment also had a standout quarter, with sales rising by 20% to 105,222 units. This category includes vehicles such as the Bronco, Bronco Sport, and various performance packages on Ford pickups and SUVs.

The Bronco saw a particularly impressive performance, with sales jumping 35% year-over-year to 32,595 units. This growth helped push the total Bronco family sales, including the Bronco Sport, to 65,958 units, a 19% increase from last year.

With the Bronco outselling the Jeep Wrangler in December 2024 and January 2025, Ford's off-road offerings are clearly resonating with adventure-seeking customers.

Ford Pro and Connected Vehicle Growth

Ford Pro, the company's platform for connected commercial vehicles, continues to grow, with an estimated 674,000 active subscriptions at the end of Q1, up 20% from last year. The platform’s services are increasingly popular among fleet operators looking to streamline operations and enhance vehicle connectivity.

Additionally, Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving technology continues to make waves, with the system now in operation on over 5 million cumulative miles across Ford and Lincoln vehicles. The 2025 F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator now feature BlueCruise 1.4, while BlueCruise 1.5, which includes Automatic Lane Change, is available on the 2025 Mustang Mach-E.

Looking Ahead

As Ford continues to innovate and expand its product lineup, the company remains committed to offering customers a range of powertrain options, from traditional gas and diesel to hybrid and fully electric models. The strong first-quarter results demonstrate Ford’s ability to adapt to changing market demands and maintain its leadership in the truck and electrified vehicle segments.

With more updates and models on the horizon, including additional electrified options and the continued popularity of off-road vehicles, Ford is positioned for a strong year ahead in the commercial and consumer truck markets.
