A few weeks ago, Winter Storm Atlas dumped several feet of snow on a swath of the country that stretched from the northern Rockies to the northern High Plains. Across the nation, temperatures are dropping, the days are getting shorter, and it’s time once again to winterize fleet vehicles. 

That means flushing the cooling system and replacing the coolant, checking windshield wiper blades, replacing wildshield washer fluid, checking the battery, checking the tire pressure and tread and more.

21st Century Insurance recommends the following items for a winter emergency kit kept in the trunk:

• Flashlight, flares and first-aid kit

• Jumper cables, tool kit and tire chains

• Blanket, warm clothes, hat and gloves

• Paper towels

• Bag of salt or kitty litter for added traction if tires gets stuck

• Snow brush, ice scraper and snow shovel

• Extra windshield washer fluid

• Extra food and bottled water.
