Enersource and Conestoga College are working together to help improve the educational experience for students working toward jobs in the
powerline sector. Recently, Enersource decommissioned a double bucket truck from its fleet and donated it to the college.
The donated vehicle is a 68-foot double bucket truck, with material handler. The vehicle is similar to trucks used in most jurisdictions throughout the province.
“Expanding opportunities for students to learn about the electricity sector is critical for the industry,” said Craig Fleming, president and CEO of Enersource. “We are proud to offer an opportunity to enhance the education of our future powerline yechnicians.”
The truck will be used by students in Conestoga’s Powerline Technician program, which is a two-year diploma program and is delivered through the college’s Skills Training Centre in Ingersoll.
Students enrolled in the skills-based program learn the skills required for the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, as well as transmission lines.
“Providing students with opportunities to train and learn on industry-standard equipment is essential to Conestoga’s vision for career-focused education that meets community and learner needs,” said John Tibbits, president of Conestoga College. “We greatly appreciate Enersource’s generosity in contributing to the education of Ontario’s next generation of powerline technicians.”
Enersource is one of Ontario's most reliable energy providers, serving approximately 200,000 residential and commercial customers across Mississauga.
